Ever-Evolving:
Front Porch Fest

Overview

Front Porch Fest’s visual identity evolves each year while staying rooted in the spirit of the festival. What began as a small gathering on a friend’s porch has grown over a 17-year history into one of the most family-friendly festivals in the Blue Ridge.

For the past five years, I have created the annual visual direction for the festival, developing warm, joyful, and accessible designs that reflect both its personality and history. Each year starts with a central theme, often inspired by the music of that year’s headlining acts, which I translate into a full visual language including logos, illustrated motifs, patterns, and typography. That system is designed to work across print, digital, and on-site applications, from social media and email templates to programs, wayfinding, and a full website takeover.

I also extend the visual direction into motion for artist announcements and lineup reveals, using animation to bring hand-drawn elements and typography to life in a way that feels playful and specific to each year. Each season includes a merchandise collection of tees, kids’ items, posters, and stickers that carry the theme beyond the event itself. The result is a flexible yearly visual world that stays consistent in tone while adapting to each new lineup and theme.
